Trim and door painting done right
The right enamel
Trim and doors get touched, kicked, and cleaned. Flat wall paint will not survive that. We use a hardened trim enamel or waterborne alkyd in semi-gloss or satin that levels smooth, resists scuffs, and wipes clean without burnishing.
Prep that lasts
Old trim in South Florida homes often has multiple layers of paint, nail holes, and separated caulk lines where the wood has moved with humidity. We fill, sand smooth, re-caulk every joint against the wall, and prime bare or patched spots before the finish coats. Glossy old enamel is scuff-sanded or deglossed so the new coat bonds.
Front doors and the South Florida sun
A west- or south-facing front door in Palm Beach County takes a beating. Dark colors absorb heat and can blister if the wrong product is used. We recommend exterior enamels rated for direct sun and can advise on which deep colors hold up. Fiberglass and metal doors need specific primers.
Spray or brush
Doors are usually sprayed for a glass-smooth finish. Baseboards and casings in occupied homes are typically brushed with a fine-finish brush to avoid overspray, unless the home is empty and we can mask and spray for speed and finish quality.
Pairing trim with a wall repaint
Most trim work happens alongside an interior repaint, and the order matters: trim is painted first, then walls are cut in against it for the sharpest line. If your trim is in good shape and only the walls need color, we protect the trim and cut a clean line. If you want to update dated dark-stained trim to white, that is a full prime-and-paint job and one of the highest-impact changes you can make to an older home.
